Saving Our Sunflowers was created to empower young women through edification, support, aid, and advocacy, especially ones who are struggling with mental illness, addiction and substance abuse.
Our daugther/granddaughter/neice/sister/friend/cousin/aunt/mom, Shaunissy Lynn McDonald transitioned on September 4, 2020 due to a accidental overdose of fentanyl. She struggled with depression many years which lead to substance abuse and addiction. Shaunissy leaves a legacy of a 4 (currently 8) year old son, Kingston, who is a vibrant, handsome little boy. My oldest daughter Deidre and I named this organization in honor of Shaunissy because she loved "Sunflowers" and Saving Our Sunflowers (S.O.S.) is also a signal for a call for help.
Saving Our Sunflowers (S.O.S.) is 501(3)(c) non-profit organization that provides resources to people who suffer from mental illness and addiction. These services include bringing awareness to the mental illness and addiction, offering financial assistance for treatment programs that promote mental illness and/or addiction recovery, and therapeutic support to these people and their families. .
